Slippage
Slippage is the difference between what you were quoted before a trade happens and what you actually get after the transaction goes through. Slippage allows you to modify how much risk you're willing to take on a trade. Blue chip tokens (SOL and USDC, for example), and pairs with high liquidity usually don't need very much slippage for a trade to be successful, and it minimizes risk. Usually you need some amount of slippage when you trade memecoins and pairs with low liquidity, as there's lots of activity on those, which may result in your trade failing as it failed to meet the amount you were originally quoted.
- Example: 1 SOL input gave you a quoted output of 100,000 Token A and you have 2% slippage. You're allowing the amount you receive to "slip" by 2% which would be 98,000 of Token A for 1 SOL otherwise the transaction will fail.
